Why do diabetics want a mirror on the bed stand?

Having a mirror on the bed stand prompts a diabetic patient to look at the bottom of their feet before going to bed. In diabetics, this routine may prevent an out-of-control infection developing quickly over several days.

Mirror on the Bed Stand

A diabetic with neuropathy may have a partial or full loss of sensation on the bottom of their feet. Neuropathy is a generalized deterioration of nerves in the feet. A person with neuropathy needs to see a problem developing on the bottom of their feet because often the neuropathy prevents them from feeling a sore in its early stages. Discovering a sore early, when there is only redness or slight drainage, leads to seeing the doctor before a deep infection develops. If a sore is noticed, avoid weight bearing until a medical evaluation is done.
